The Blues

Based on the impact of a strong visual sensation of the figurative world, my subject matter is constantly evolving. The trigger is visual but, in the process of trying to capture it, ideas that are subliminal emerge inviting the viewer to move between visual reality and further meaning.

Vicki Parish obtained an Honours degree in Fine Arts from the University of Sydney, followed by study at Julian Ashton Art School (Diploma of Painting, Drawing and Design) and a post-graduate diploma from City Art Institute (now the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales).

Vicki has exhibited extensively in Australia and in France in solo and group shows in commercial and public galleries.

In Australia, she is also frequently represented in juried exhibitions such as the Dobell Drawing Prize, NSW Parliament Plein Air Painting Prize, Portia Geach Portrait Award, Kedumba Drawing Award, Adelaide Perry Drawing Prize and the ANL Maritime Award. Recently, her work was selected to be included in the Kedumba Contemporary Australian Drawing Collection and she was awarded the Bendigo Wealth Award as part of the ANL Maritime Art Awards.

In France, where Parish owns a studio with husband and fellow artist, Ian Chapman, she has had 13 solo and shared exhibitions since 2006 at Galérie Jenson, Tours, France, and also at Chateau de Gizeux where, for four years, she was artist-in-residence. In 2018, she organised with Ian Chapman a joint exhibition of fellow Australian artists entitled Australie à Gizeux.

Her work is represented in public and corporate collections in Australia and abroad, including the Kedumba Contemporary Australian Drawing Collection; IBM (Aust); Commonwealth Bank and Forays Art Consultants, as well as in private Collections in Australia, Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Vienna, New York and France.

Vicki Parish has exhibited with the AWI in its annual and associated exhibitions since 1992, being elected a member in 1995.
