My oeuvre is based on intently observing and exploring the nature of various objects and the physical environment. These works are imbued with meticulous detail and demonstrate specific interests both with pattern and the manicured characteristics of gardens and ordered spaces. These issues are demonstrated by my preoccupation with the interplay of light between the interior and the exterior and by witnessing the workings of nature in organised and manicured spaces. These concerns provide the subject matter that enables me to explore the formal issues necessary to construct and manipulate the image, allowing me to pay rigorous attention to order, composition, pattern, pictorial space and to the meticulous rendering of detail. The medium of watercolour allows me to explore the inherent qualities of transparency and to pursue the fluctuating light and atmosphere that surrounds the subject matter.
