Squeaky Beach Wilsons Promontory

Recently I have been working on Yupo paper and watercolour canvas and have been focusing on the behavioural qualities between the water and pigment on these surfaces. The outcomes in all instances are vibrant, spontaneous and exciting. My other works are in oils, acrylic and pastel, which vary in style from abstraction to Impressionism. My latest foray into watercolour involves mixing it with black ink and collage, which is creating wonderful mood and mystery. My overall aim is to provoke the viewer’s imagination.

Born in Kingston, South Australia, Julie Goldspink studied oil painting and drawing at Coffs Harbour TAFE College for two years, acquiring Certificates for both. Later, she attended Charles Sturt University to study for a BA of Fine Arts majoring in textiles and oil painting. During this time, she was also studying watercolour with Joseph Zbukvic and portrait painting at Mitchell College part time with some of Australia’s leading artists, such as Joshua Smith and Reg Campbell.

Sine 1994, Goldspink has had numerous solo exhibitions throughout Australia and participated in numerous group exhibitions, including Living on the Edge at PMRG Glasshouse and, in 2016, an exhibition of selected members of the Victorian Watercolour Society at the Dalian Art Museum, China, for whose collection her work was acquired.

Among her numerous awards are the Singleton Art Prize for Contemporary Watercolour (2003), the Adelaide Swift Memorial Art Award (2006), the Mid North Coast Open Art Prize (2010) and the Australian Guild of Realist Artists Spring Exhibition Prize (2012).

Her work is represented in private collections in Australia and overseas.

She is a member of the Watercolour Society of Victoria and the Victorian Artists Society and a Fellow of the Australian Guild of Realist Artists

Elected member of the Australian Watercolour Institute in 2014, Julie Goldspink lives and works in Melbourne.
